A 诗 (shī) for Cubes, Earth, and my grandparents
Performance, Video, Public Sculpture
ice, fake blood, pork blood, bed sheet
In the performance recorded with my grandfather’s camera and displayed on a monitor, I improvised a poem in collaboration with Google Translate from English to Simplified Mandarin. My hands act as the brush, and the ink, pig’s blood. After I finish writing one page, I wash the cloth in the basin and dump the bloody water back into the earth. And then I start again.

The cube is made of ice with its core, a fake blood mixture. It takes approximately 7 hours to melt in the summer.
